does ne one know if cats have the same auditory sensitivity as dogs?
i have 6 indoor/outdoor cats. my neighbor put a fence up to keep them out cause shes alergic but we, as cat lovers, know that a fence does not keep a determined cat out. my neighbor has been pretty tollerent so far but is getting more upset every time she rakes her garden & finds cat poo there. i found a product in a" make life easier" order book called motion activated animal repeller that emits a high pitched sound that animals hate. i know the one for mice works so i expect this will too. my question is will it work on cats? do they have the same high frequency fobia that dogs have? i'd like to buy it for my neighbor so my cats will stop pooping in her yard. we have a big yard, i wish they'd stay home to poo.
Actually, cats have better sensitivity than dogs. Also, because of the way their ears are, they can pinpoint where the sound is coming from much better than most breeds of dogs (some terriers and spitz dogs can tell the source of a sound pretty well too). Although cats can detect a much wider frequency of sounds than dogs, they cant hear as far. So a sound needs to be louder or closer for a cat to react to it.....
Now, about the fence... I've heard of some ppl using it to repel cats and it seems to work. No guarantees, but for what I've heard, you may want to try it... although the cat may need to be closer to the fence than a dog to get the same reaction, is very likely that a cat may hear the sound too and be just as annoyed as a dog.... but it also depends on how determined your cats are too. Good luck!!!!
