going camping for a day.... what food?
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for meals to make on my camping trip. What ingredients will I need?
Going for dinner and breakfast. Have numourous stoves and access to a fixed BBQ grill thing. Thanks
It sounds like you won't have to backpack it in, so unless you want to try real cooking outdoors, I'd go with easy stuff, like canned goods. Just don't forget a can opener!
If you do want to be a little more creative, try soaking corn on the cob (with the husk on) in water for an hour or so, then roast it for a few minutes in the husk over a bed of coals.
And if you have a dutch oven, you can make some amazing meals. We taught our scouts to cook in dutch ovens by stacking them. Put a bed of coals down on the bare ground or in your fire pit, put a dutch oven on that, put more coals on the lid, set another dutch oven on top of that, and so on. We've had them stacked 4-5 high. Of course, that makes checking the status of the bottom oven a little tough... Google "dutch oven recipes" if you want to see some great stuff. Oh, and a tip - line the oven with foil. It makes cleanup MUCH easier!
