Hi I am laying a small patio with 25 slabs in the middle of my garden, ?
I have been told to sprinkle sand raking it level then sprinkle dry cement powder also making it level then place the slabs on this mixture making sure that all the slabs are level then pour water onto the slabs and leave to dry allowing the cement to set then fill in all the spaces with dry powder and also wet is this correct
Ideally you should use 2" of concrete sand as the bed,then level.Mix the cement with the dry sand and lay the slabs.NO water added and leave for 7 days.Once the slabs have set,mix up a 5-1 dry cement mix and brush into the joints,then using a sponge and water clean all the cement from the faces of the slabs.The moisture from the sand/ground/atmosphere will set the slabs.and the same plus the damp sponge will provide enough moisture to set the joints.Pouring water onto them at any stage runs the risk of flooding the foundation and leaving gaps.this will give you wobbly slabs.There is nothing more annoying than having to lift and relay them.Keep "every body " off them until the joints have set.If you have any doubts just open a bag of cement and leave it,in 3-5 days it'll be hard,and in 20 days it'll be like stone,just from the ambient moisture in the air.and the ground's a lot damper.
