Can dogs swim in chlorinated water?
We are considering getting a outside pool installed this summer, we have not decided yet and are only just entertaining the idea but a question arose.
We have one dog a male Bullmastiff he loves the water we already have a small above ground pool and most of the summer months we keep the water level very low as he thoroughly enjoys spending the hottest days just lounging in the pool. He also loves the beach and will essentially play and swim around till his body gives out if you don't make him stop. So I know he will immediately fall in love with a pool if we have one installed so keeping him out of it will be pretty much impossible so my question is can a dog swim in chlorinated water without any ill effects? if not is there any animal friendly way we can treat a pool? thanks in advance for any help.
The danger is not to the dog. The danger is to the pool and the pool pump. Your dog will shed fur that will get into your filtration system and can cause filtration problems, and possibly also pump burnout.
I know because I maintained a swimming pool for many years at my home. -!-
