How much weight can have this roof?
I want to build a patio on top of a flat roof, which is the ceiling of my room for breakfast. The nails in the roof are 2x6s, 24 "apart in the center. The roof is 12'x13 '. Now I must build one floor of this courtyard. I thought placing concrete pavers of 2'x2 'there, but I do not know if it is maintained. It is thought that some indoor / outdoor carpeting, but is exposed to sun and rain. 1) How much weight can have this roof? 2) What do you think would be best for this flat roof and why?
Things about Don is incorrect a couple. When the roof is flat, the roof of "rafters are called rafter in the roof as opposed to the rafters. The roof is framed but not be too worried about it, it must not cave unless you had unusually heavy snow loads. If you want to put a deck out there, do not rest any load on the roof existing. If you place the deck supports on the exterior or load-bearing walls to transfer the load directly to the foundation, then you will have no problem. Beams should definitely cover 2X10 on 16 "centers however. As one of the suggested answers, you can replace the cover before doing the work because, once covered the deck is there, how to access the roof? EPDM is a great product for the size of the deck that is trying. Not much of a DIY job, but good luck.
