55 Gallon tank with uneven stand?
So we have a 55 gallon tank with an uneven stand, the shortest edges of the tank are on the beams of the stand, however the center of the tank isn't touching the stand at all. We placed two pieces of cardboard stacked on top of eachother as a support but if we put more than that then the sides no longer touch. Will this be sufficient enough to support the weight of the tank?

^This is what the bottom of my tank looks like, that center beam is sitting higher than the actual top of the tank stand. The stand has raised edges that makes the surface slightly uneven, the gap is less than a quarter of an inch between the bottom of the plastic and the top of the stand.
First let me make sure I understand this. Are you saying that the center, as in the glass bottom, isn't touching or is it the center of the plastic trim along the sides that doesn't touch?
You don't want the bottom of the glass to touch the stand, the plastic trim sits lower, and the tank is fine if it's just supported by the edges on the bottom. But it there's some point in the middle on the plastic trim that doesn't touch, it sounds like your stand is warped. If this is a new stand, I would return it for another one. The weight of the water in the tank will put pressure on the sides of the stand, around 10 lbs per gallon including the weight of the water, tank, gravel, and decorations, and if it bends the warped area, it may cause the stand to collapse.
ADDED
The center piece is a brace and along with the plastic along the edge of the tank it keeps your tank from bowing outward because of the water pressure from inside. It's okay if that doesn't sit on the stand.
