I had rain water leak in around my walkout basement door. I found mold. Should I dilute bleach to clean it?
I have a finished basement and my dry wall is pulling away from where it meets the door. The dry wall is very soft/damp and somewhat coming off/undone. I plan on cutting out a square of dry wall above the inside door frame (parallel with the floor) to see if there is mold behind it. It's been leaking for some time but just now became visibly noticeable. The outdoor caulk around the door frame pulled away from the concrete foundation. It's still raining so I am unable to apply to caulk to seal it up and stop the water from coming in. It's not a ton of water coming in = no flooding. Just enough to make the dry wall wet. Also, will floor fans' air be able to go up and around the entire dry walled area around the door frame?
Since you stated it has been leaking for some time I am sure you have some mold/mildew present behind that wall. I am almost certain wood will have to be replaced as well. When you cut out the piece you mentioned, look to see if the 2X4/s close to that area is black. If you they will have to be replaced. Yes bleach will kill mold and mildew and I use it whenever I see the green evil stuff.
Floor fans will help you in drying up the area once it quits raining. Good luck...........
