Saving security camera video to a hard drive.?
I have a hard drive that is hooked up to my wireless router as a storage drive. I want to get a motion sensor light, and a security camera to monitor my driveway. What would be the best way of getting a security camera to be able to save the video it records to the hard drive that is connected to my wireless router? I want to be able to fast forward through the nighttime footage and stop it when I see the motion sensing light come on (hence, someone is around my driveway/cars). What is the best affordable (>$180) setup that I could accomplish this with. I have searched all over amazon.com and a couple other sites and have found the SVAT CV31 with good reviews, but no one mentions saving the video to a hard drive. Thanks in advance.

That SVAT camera has a really small lens. It won't see the best at night. I would recommend going with a DVR PCI card that you can put in your computer and then spending the rest of your money on a decent camera. Here is a PCI card on Amazon:

The PCI card will come with software to stream off and save your video stream for a specified period of time. Usually this is around 2 weeks time. You can also setup software to alert you if there is motion and most of the PCI cards come with software that will do that:

I have used the Vision GS software and it's free. Usually on the cameras, a bigger lens will get a better photo at night and then your picture quality will be better. Here is a link to a security camera on Amazon:

You'll need to run wire for that camera. So I would say, consider your location where you are installing this camera at. Also, if you go the PCI card, you can add multiple cameras in the future to your system. The DVR PCI card is essentially another method to get you a DVR system. You'll need some space on your hard drive to save the video but the card software should walk you through all of that.
