How I can connect a timer switch at the other end of a three way switch?
I have a method that controls the three light porch, and at the other end I would like to connect a timer switch. I've tried several different wiring configurations and nothing seemed to work. It's a bit difficult because the time switch is also in the midst of a series of switches to control other lights. The only 3-way has a red, black and 3 drivers timer switch in green, white, black and red. I am a bit lost.
OK, what's going to do is to eliminate the other three routes. Here's how. In the method 3 is not necessary to pull the switch out. Wire nut to a cable that is in common and one of the cables on the other screw. Cover the other cable. In the timer, use the wire that was in the common screw and one of the other cables. You have to prove that one is. It will be the same as in the other end wire nutter. It's a 50/50 shot. If you guess and guess wrong, just switch. Complete the other. So now you have two cables. One is hot all the time. You need to know which one it is and connect to the sideline with a timer switch. The other goes to the load.
