Patio Camping Cabin

What would be fun to have at a vacation cabin?

I'm planning to build a vacation cabin on about 5 acres. So far I just have a cool cabin design. There's going to be one central cabin for living/kitchen/dining with patios in the front and back. Off the back patio will be 3 rope bridges going to 3 different "sleeping huts". Its going to be very rustic and camping-like.

Outside of the cabins, I have planned a fruit orchard, a fire ring for camp fires, and some trails running through the woods around the property. I can't think of what else to add. What would you add? Only other ideas I have are maybe horseshoe pits or something. I want it to be fun for all ages.

Thanks all
whatever mik

Since it's a static campsite and you've said it will be very rustic, I'm guessing there will be no sewage lines and you'll need some sort of waste water management for both gray water and your toilet facility. I don't know if there is a fresh water source there. If so, you may want to consider a septic tank for your gray and toilet waste. Though it will require periodic checks and maintenance every 5 years or so, as well as being pumped out to remove accumulated solid waste, it should be fairly robust considering it won't go through the rigors of a typical household tank and I don't get the sense you'll be living here on a daily basis. If it's so rural that it is inaccessible to a vacuum hauler, it may be impossible to get the tank serviced and you may need to come up with a solution that requires manual removal of solid waste material so it can be hauled out. (a messy issue to discuss, but it's a very necessary issue to consider).

Now for a few fun ideas:
Maybe a small tree house or raised fort for children, complete with tire swing (in an attempt to make it more appealing to younger children). I've added a link for some cool tree house, fort and playhouse designs.

Consider a compost area for green waste. The enriched soil can be used around your fruit orchard. In addition to trees (which can take a while to produce fruit) consider hardy, rapid producers such as berry brambles, perennial herbs and such to supply a variety of foods for the cabin at different seasons (these all require little care when you're away if there is adequate rainfall).

It would be nice to add a wood burning stove (especially if you aren't adding electricity or heating). This could possibly be used for both cooking and heating.

A couple of sturdy hammocks with a cover to protect them from rain/sun.

I hope you have lots of fun with whatever design and amenity ideas you come up with.
