Formatting PowerPoint background with gradient forces preset colors; can I use customer colors?
I don't like how Bill Gates changed Microsoft Office. As soon as I click gradient I am stuck with Bill Gate's preset color designs and I don't like his designs, they are awful. I want a simple two gradient color design; I do not want a gaudy, ugly multi color Bill Gates design. How can I get the new Power Point to work like the Old Power Point with more user control.
You won't get it to work like the old PowerPoint. Gradients in 2007 are a million time better / more powerful than in previous versions - you just need to spend a little time learning them, then you will be blown away.
To make a 2 color gradient in a background...
I assume you went to Format Background --> Fill --> and selected Gradient Fill.
From there, you will see something that says Gradient Stop. The default should show Stop 1. Go below it to Color, pull down and select your first color of the two you want for your gradient.
Then go back to where it says Stop 1, pull it down and select Stop 2. Go back to where it says Color and pulldown and select your second color.
Go back to where it says Stop 2, pull it down to Stop 3 and click on the button to the right of it that says Remove.
That gives you a basic 2 stop gradation. What is amazing is that you can have many stops, you can control the transparency of each stop and most importantly, you can control where each stop begins and ends (stop position).

Microsoft and the way they want to think for me really does drive me nuts, but years ago when the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Pages/home.aspx was founded and started giving out the quantities of money that were mind-boggling, I decided to eliminate cheapshots at Bill Gates specifically.
