How do i try to keep my pedigree cat indoors? Help !!?
I have a Ragdoll kitten, aged 15 weeks. They are strictly indoor cats according to the experts, but my cat is desperate to get outside and makes a dash for the door whenever it opens!
He is well fed, well loved and has plenty of stimulation & company, as i am at home all day.
I am becoming increasingley concerned about his escape efforts & am desperate for some advice! Our garden is enclosed but he has already climbed the fence and got out on the road!
Any advice would be gratefully accepted!

Once your kitty has had a taste of the great outdoors, it can be challenging to deter them from their "great escape" action! Cats are curious critters for sure and it is a good thing that you are seeking help to keep him indoors.
One of the things that I did with my cat who loved to dash out the door, was to throw a cat action toy into the room just at the moment I was leaving. Try greeting your cat away from the door also so that he doesn't associate it with your petting him therefore making that area something pleasant. You can keep a jar filled with pennies that makes a dreadful sound by the door and shake it each time he is close to the door and ready to pounce out.
A well designed cat tree away from the door may be another thing to get him interested in. As you know, kitties love to look outside and be perched up high. Try impregnating the tree with fresh catnip frequently, to make it more appealing to him.
Try and make the doorway as unappealing to your kitty as possible. You can rub a deterrent product around the door so that he will not be as attracted to that area as he is. Try using fresh orange peels, or any other safe citrus product.
Again, as another poster stated, if all else fails, having someone outside the door spraying him with a squirt gun as he is about to run out can work. You do not want him to associate this with you.. but to get the idea that when the door opens he is met with a not so pleasant consequence. The door is a scary thing, afterall.
Make other areas in the house as attractive to him as possible by placing toys, and other objects for which he can hunt.
It is not too early to neuter him as well. Having this done may assist in alleviating his desire to go outdoors.
