What would be better for my dog golden retriever?
I am getting a golden retriever soon girl puppy but i wanted two so if I had to leave they would be fine should I get 2 females or 1 female 1 male? And I have had dogs before and helped out with dog walking so lots of experience! And should I get a golden retriever or a labrador? Both so cute!
I also volenteered at spca.
should i get them at different times? so one is 8 months and the other is 2?
I have two dogs one is 9 years, had her since she was 9 weeks old. The other was a rescue 3 years ago, he is 5 now. Having two is a lot more work and they can undo the others good behavior as much as they can teach good behavior.
I have a male rescue because none of the females I introduced to my older dog got along with her.
I believe dog walking to be a very important activity even if you have a large yard for them. Walking two dogs can be tricky, it took a while for me to get it right. Remember you are not walking SPCA's dogs, these will live with you.
I could go on about the social gaps in dogs that have been kenneled a long time. The 8 month old worries me because by that time social development may be fixed and hard to correct. The 2 year old will also be fixed as far as social development but is at a calmer age.
Perhaps the tie breaker is to take home the least adoptable dog, figuring that someone else will take the other dog. Larger, darker dogs are always hardest to place.
