Deep cut on thumb?
Ok stupid me was cutting something with a fold up knife and the dam thing folded up over my thump. The cut is pretty deep but not to the bone ( I dont think ). I was pretty fast at getting a wetwipe and putting pressure on the wound and the bleeding seemd to half seal the cut.
It has been throbing all day and when i took the plaster off it looked pretty deep and open. So i got some of that bandage tape stuff and made myself some butterfly stitches and sealed the wound up pretty well. I'm hoping it will clot well enough to heal, Not really bothered about a scar as its only a thumb.
Any advice weather i should go to the Hospital or just keep changing the dressing everyday. Note this is throbing like mad but the bleeding as keept off.
Throbbing indicates healing, not infection.
An infection is indicated by pus coming from the wound, the tell-tale "red line" fron the point of injury up the extremity, or extreme redness, swelling, tenderness to the area. If it is truly infected then a trip to the doctor (just a regular doctor or PA or maybe an urgent care -- NOT an ER!) will get you a prescription for an antibiotic.
As long as it has been clean and covered infection shouldn't be an issue, or course a cut with a very dirty or otherwise compromised object could immediately expose you to infection.
It was stupid to not go in right away as a deep cut to a small body part such as a finger could have jeopardized a tendon, nerve, or important blood vessel. They won't do anything about the cut itself since the limit for stitches and the like is 4-6 hours.
Keep it clean and watch for signs of infection; that's the only thing to worry about now.
Elevating and ibuprofen can eliminate some pain and pressure.
