Baby Led Weaning/Using utensils?
I have followed BLW and had absolutely no problems. My daugher self feeds anything and everything that wont eat her. She is 13 months and does well with all meals but is most times a disaster from head to toe when finshed.
I have never used purees, and have never spoon fed her myself. She doesnt allow it. I give her a set of little silverware when she is eating and she may scoop a bite or two into her mouth, so she knows what they are for. To her, they are mainly tools to fling food onto the floor for the dog. Maybe its too early and Im expecting too much, but when do children typically use a spoon and fork for their intended purpose?
My son is two and I also used BLW. He still sometime uses his hands. I have always offered a spoon and fork. He has it mastered but still prefers his hands. I think because it is easier and faster. He really started getting interested in the spoon and fork at about 18 months. I think maybe you are expecting too much. Just keep offering it and she will use it when she is ready. And my son learned by example watching me eat.
