Top Fire Pit
I found a brown lizard in my lawn?
It's about 10 inches long with a thick body. It has brown, black and green stripes going width wize with white only on the stripes near the side of the belly., and a light under belly. It has some green around it's mouth and opens it wide when my hand is two inches away. I live in Northern California in the town area of Folsom. I just had to set the rounded cage from my unused fire pit table over the top of him to be captured. Could this be some one's pet? It seems very tame. I've never seen a lizard like this near my residence.....or maybe I haven't noticed? Please let me know what I should do. I don't want to keep him contained for long. If it's some one's pet though, would it survive on it's own?

It might be a skink and it won't bite too hard but it could be an aligator lizard and it will nearly take your finger off so be careful do some research on both skinks and aligator lizards as they look similar. Here is a site that has lizards that are found in cali.
