How To Care For Your Stainless Steel Bbq

Buying a stainless steel barbeque is an investment in healthy eating. This is mainly because the surface of stainless steel is non-porous and so food scraps and cleaning chemicals cannot become embedded in the tiny surface holes like they do with other types of barbeques. However, stainless steel is not magic; it still needs special care for the surface to look good and remain in as new condition.

When first using a brand new stainless steel barbeque, be sure to remove the transparent film from the surface and give it a good wash in warm soapy water. Rinse with clean water and towel dry or allow the heat to dry it. Never clean your stainless steel bbq with bleach or any chemical containing bleach and dont use the ordinary steel wool pads not even the soaped ones. The fibres from steel wool pads tend to break off and embed themselves into the surface of the stainless steel. Then they go rusty and spoil the look of the barbeque.

For cleaning after use, your stainless steel bbq needs to be washed with a plastic or other scourer that is non-abrasive. When rubbing stainless steel, follow the grain of the sheen rather than rubbing across it. Dont leave wet sponges or metal pots or dishes on the surface; the former leave a chemical residue that is damaging to the surface and will taint the food, while the latter can cause rust to form. Drying with a towel will prevent mineral build-up that is likely even from clean water.

Even when your stainless steel bbq has not been used, cleaning it every month will ensure that pollution from the atmosphere does not build up and affect the surface.
